Therefore in addition to our ongoing efforts, we would like to showcase the Quarter 2 recipients for the Cresswood Cares initiative, further demonstrating our commitment to community impact.
May Charitable Giving
Give DeKalb County
County wide day of donations for local non-profits. From museums and food pantries to theaters and social service agencies, nonprofits work tirelessly to address needs and enhance the quality of life in DeKalb County. Donations on Give DeKalb County Day extends beyond any one organization’s mission, as the combined support from companies and individuals celebrates the community spirit and generosity that unites all of DeKalb County.
There are three different organizations that we donated to in May during Give DeKalb County:
1. DeKalb County Community Gardens:
DeKalb County Community Gardens (DCCG) empowers people to access healthy and sustainably grown foods and addresses the root causes of hunger. They provide access to fresh, local, sustainably-grown organic vegetables for all who may be in need with more than 15 acres of growing space. In two short years, DCCG has produced nearly ten tons of food donated to local food pantries, daycare centers, schools, community meal locations, senior citizen centers, and housing units, as well as to the Meals on Wheels program. DCCG has gardens all over the county, with over 200 raised beds as well as large acreages.
2. Safe Passage:
Safe Passage is DeKalb County’s only Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Center. They provide a wide range of services to survivors and their loved ones including shelter, counseling, advocacy, and so much more. All survivor services are completely free, confidential, and available to all, no matter your age, gender, or when the abuse occurred. The vision at Safe Passage is a world without violence where all are safe. As a trauma-informed agency, Safe Passage acknowledges that systems of oppression impact survivors of interpersonal violence in many different ways. They strive to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion practices at the center of their daily work to honor the unique journeys of our clients, staff, and community. Together we have the power to create a violence-free community.
3. Summer Lunch at the Park
Summer Lunch at the Park serves FREE, healthy lunches to kids and families in the DeKalb area over the summer.
More than 4,000 DeKalb school children qualify to receive free/reduced lunch and breakfast during the school year. That adds up to a lot of missed meals or extra cost for already struggling families over the summer. We believe no child should go hungry!
A healthy boxed lunch for kids + an adult lunch that includes fresh fruit, salad or sandwich, and shelf-stable snacks that can provide lunch for parents and/or supplemental snacks for kids. WITH YOUR HELP more frequent fresh salads and a greater variety of produce and fresh meats can be offered this summer. ANY child, ages 0-18, and their family is welcome. Summer Lunch serves an average of 2500 meals over 32 serving days each summer – that’s about 30,000 meals since our inception in 2012.
A safe space for kids, a welcoming environment for all, and caring adults who will listen are the hallmarks of Summer Lunch. Beyond our summer program, a year-round monthly hot meal (REAL meal) is served from our home base at First United Methodist Church, 2501 N Annie Glidden Rd. This meal serves our summer families and many senior citizens who benefit from a hot meal and social interaction throughout the year (serving 150-200/meal)
June Charitable Giving
1. Ronald McDonald House Charities:
Since 1977, they have kept families together with their hospitalized children through the Ronald McDonald House® and Ronald McDonald Family Room® programs, enabling them to get better together.
Each night, they keep 181 families close to the care and resources they need through six Ronald McDonald Houses and four Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.
Enabling families to stay close to their hospitalized child supports the child’s health and well-being while saving families more than $10 million in hotel and food costs each year.
2. We Care Pregnancy Clinic:
We Care has spent 32 years developing a wide variety of programs and services to meet the needs of the community. All of their programs and services are offered to everyone who needs them and are free of charge. Donations to We Care Clinic mean that they can continue to provide women, men, and students continued care no matter where they are on their pregnancy journey.
They believe that everyone who visits their clinic deserves to be cared for and offered medically-sourced, accurate information and education opportunities.
