Cresswood, an American Made Industrial Shredder & Grinder company, is proud to continue its partnership with Rooted for Good, a local nonprofit dedicated to creating inclusive vocational opportunities. This collaboration is an extension of our shared commitment to sustainability, community, and meaningful work. Whether we’re supporting Rooted for Good’s mission through sourcing garden seedlings or designing equipment that powers recycling systems nationwide, our goal remains the same: to build a better, more resilient future—together.
Growing More Than Produce: Expanding Our Garden at Cresswood
The beginning of May kicked off a new season at the Cresswood Community Gardens, with fresh soil delivered and new beds prepared thanks to the help of our amazing team. This year, we’ve expanded our growing space to 400 square feet – including a special melon corner requested by Ashanti. Liv Echevara, our wonderful office receptionist, helped plant everything from asparagus and carrots to Roma tomatoes and watermelon. Ashanti and Sawyer took on the heavy lifting, prepping the beds with new compost and soil.
We source all our seedlings from Walnut Grove Vocational Farm, where Rooted for Good offers hands-on training for adults with learning disabilities. These partnerships reflect the same community-centered mindset we bring to our core business – whether we’re cultivating food or building industrial shredders that support recycling facilities across the country.
From Seedlings to Service: Feeding the Community, Honoring Family
Mid May, we officially planted this season’s crop, with continued support from Rooted for Good and the dedication of our staff, we hope to surpass last year’s total of 120 pounds of donated organic produce. Our goal this season? 200 pounds – all of it going to local families facing food insecurity.
The asparagus, now in its fourth year, is giving us a wonderful harvest of large shoots. We’re reminded that great things take time – just like the way we design our world class industrial grinders built for long-term performance. Whether in our garden or in our manufacturing floor, we believe in sustainable growth, quality outcomes, and nourishing what matters.
Rooted in Love: Remembering Mayah Grace Butzman
This spring at Cresswood, we also dedicated the flower boxes and bench to the memory of Mayah Grace Butzman, the beloved daughter of our President, Ryan Butzman. Mayah’s life, though heartbreakingly short, was filled with light, kindness, and grace—qualities that now bloom in the vibrant flowers planted in her honor. It stands as a living tribute to her spirit and a visible symbol of our love and support for the Butzman family. Each blossom is a quiet reminder that even in the deepest grief, beauty, and love can still take root. Mayah’s legacy will forever be a part of Cresswood and the hearts of all who pass through it.
Giving Back Locally—From American-Made Shredders to Stronger Communities
On May 1, Cresswood proudly participated in Give DeKalb County’s Virtual Giving Day—an inspiring event highlighting the many incredible nonprofits serving our local community. Several of our team members volunteered during the event, and we were especially honored to support Rooted for Good, a local organization working to address food insecurity and build sustainable, community-driven solutions. Recently, Rooted for Good suffered a devastating setback when a $750,000 federal grant was rescinded due to policy changes focused on “efficiency.” The sudden loss left a significant funding gap—but also an opportunity for our community to step up. We invite you to consider joining us in supporting their work through ongoing giving at the link below. Every dollar helps plant hope and resilience in DeKalb County.
